Writer’s Block: Table for One

Do you ever go out to dinner (at a sit-down restaurant) by yourself?

I do. I kind of prefer it to eating with other people sometimes. Much like going to the cinema on your own, going to gigs on your own and going shopping on your own, it’s just so much less hassle. There’s none of this talking rubbish and being social. When I go out somewhere to eat, that is what I want to do. Eat. I love food and enjoy eating so if I’m making the effort and taking the time to go to a restaurant I want to savour it.

Not yak all the way through the meal.

My mum doesn’t understand how I eat so quickly, but I think most of it is because I’m just sitting opposite her eating and she’s talking.

There’s also none of the being texted by the person/people you’re supposed to be eating with to say that they’ll be late for whatever reason. Which is one of the other things that applies to the cinema/gigs/shopping on your own thing.

Am I supposed to feel weird about sitting down in a restaurant on my own to eat dinner? The whole idea strikes me as kind of odd, partly I guess, because I am an only child and have always expected to be doing things on my own.
